2 years working experience as a computer Technician in an IT services company
2 years of experience with Veritas and TSM
Practical knowledge in Networking, Storage infrastructure technologies and data
backup solutions
ITIL Foundations (Certification desired)
Desired Skills
Computer skills with one or more of the following Operating Systems: MS Windows,
UNIX, Linux, Sun Solaris, & MS DOS
Computer Programming Language
Familiar with data storage infrastructure, LAN and WAN networking and
contemporary programming languages/tools
Ability to support customer via phone
Data collection, correlation analysis
Job Responsibilities
The daily responsibilities of this individual will include, but are not limited
to, performing data restore processes using Veritas Netbackup and Tivoli Storage
manager, performing regular processing of media, inventory maintenance, hardware
and media fault response and maintaining required process and inventory
documentation enabling the service management best practices for the Department
of Education customer.
The major responsibilities for this position include:
* Performing junior administration functions on an as-needed or project basis.
* Monitoring TSM systems focusing on tape related processes. Maintain scratch
pools, trouble-shoot tape issues, ensure successful vault rotation of tapes.
* Processing media by filing media in/out of libraries to/from shelves and
racks. This may apply to both onsite shelving of media or preparing media for
offsite transport.
* Work with vendors when necessary to resolve hardware issues within our TSM
libraries.
* Working within OPAS in compliance with Incident, Change, and Request
management.
* Answering incoming client phone calls and contact clients via telephone.
* Working directly with the Data Backup team to further learn/extend data backup
knowledge and responsibilities.
